adidas Skateboarding, Thrasher, and the Argentine Football Association may look a little random on paper, but stick with me for a second.

Start with Thrasher. The magazine launched in San Francisco in 1981, founded by Fausto Vitello, who was born in Argentina. So a skate publication that built its name on American street culture traces back to the same country that won the last World Cup. A series of events that led to this capsule.

Argentina holds three World Cup titles, the most recent in 2022. Thrasher built four decades of skate authority with riders like Mark Gonzales, Dennis Busenitz, and Miles Silvas shaping the brand along the way. This capsule is a celebration of these histories.

The collection's centerpiece is a diamond-pattern football jersey pulled from Argentina's 1994 World Cup kit. The USA hosted that tournament. The USA, Canada, and Mexico are hosting the upcoming one. Perfect timing for this release.

The capsule features nine pieces:

  • A diamond-pattern jersey referencing the '94 kit
  • The Glenburn shoe in leather and suede, with a dual-layered toe cap built to hold up on or off a board
  • A chino pant and hoodie carrying an embroidered AFA monogram
  • Thrasher graphic tees nodding to Argentina
  • A reversible bucket hat made for the stands
  • A ringer tee and crewneck featuring original Mark Gonzales artwork

The Glenburn was chosen as the footwear option for the collection. adidas already pulled soccer styling into that silhouette, Skate shoes and football boots have always shared a vocabulary, So dressing it for this project seemed to be an easy lift.

You could read this as another World Cup cash-in. The Vitello connection gives it credibility. A magazine born from one Argentine's move to the Bay, linking back to his home federation before a World Cup hosted on his adopted soil, is a tighter story than most brand collaborations manage.

You can grab this capsule on June 1 at www.adidas.com/skateboarding.
